The RCL is a 50-item self-report checklist. It is available in handscored format with MHS QuikScore™ Forms. Respondents are asked to indicate what prevents or discourages them from returning to their regular life roles. They are also asked to rate the five most important items in priority. There is a Total Rehabilitation subscale for all items chosen and client endorsements or perceived disability relative to varied life roles. Finally, clients are asked to indicate whether their emotional and physical conditions have improved or worsened, and when they expect their life to return to normal. Several subscales have cutoff scores indicating psychological risk factors. A score for each scale is produced, along with a Total Rehabilitation score.
