Wagdy Loza, Ph.D.

Self-report questionnaire designed to predict violent and nonviolent offender recidivism

SAQ

Overview

Overview

The SAQ is the first multidimensional self-report questionnaire designed to predict violent and nonviolent offender recidivism among adult correctional and forensic populations.

  • Assists with the appropriate treatment or correctional programs and institutional security levels
  • Can be used as a pre- and post-treatment measure to help gauge progress and make decisions
  • Short administration time makes it ideal for inmates with short sentences who would not normally warrant a lengthy assessment

Normative Data

Normative Data

The SAQ QuikScore form is completed by the respondent and includes the necessary elements for administering and scoring the instrument. The QuikScore forms contain special aids that make scoring of the test very quick and efficient, while minimizing potential for key errors.

The SAQ is a handscored, self-report assessment. From a total score, risk is assessed as low, low-moderate, high-moderate, or high. Scale scores flag case management or program concerns, and responses to certain items indicate specific needs.

Validity / Reliability

The reliability and validity of the SAQ have been well established in multiple research studies. Cronbach's alpha are presented to demonstrate the consistency in SAQ items. Test-retest reliability is presented to indicate the temporal stability of SAQ ratings.

The SAQ normative sample consists of two samples that form the normative group of adult male offenders. The American sample consisted of adult inmates from various institutions within a North-Eastern state. The Canadian sample consisted of inmates serving sentences in one region of the federal correctional system.
