Reliability, Validity, and Fairness

Reliability:

The TalentFirst Inventory scales have excellent internal consistency reliability (Employability Index alpha coefficient = .91, Productive behaviors (Talent Composite) coefficient = 0.88, Counterproductive behaviors (Risk Composite) coefficient = 0.84).

Validity:

The TalentFirst Inventory has excellent construct validity, evidenced by moderate correlations (r =.28 to .46) between analog supervisor ratings and the Employability Index score, the productive behavior composite score, and the counterproductive behavior composite score. The Employability Index score, the productive behavior composite score, and the counterproductive behavior composite score are also moderately correlated (r = .43 to .46) with the Retail Admissions criterion, a composite of 17 items that are relevant to retail employees (related to poor service, incivility and aggression, theft and collusion, illegal drug usage, turnover risk, accident risk, not meeting performance standards, and ignoring company rules).

Fairness:

A sample of 42,083 applicants that completed the TalentFirst Inventory were used to evaluate EEOC compliance. All protected race and gender demographic sub-groups were observed to have a pass rate that is at least 80% (4/5ths or .80) of the base group (i.e., White, male applicants).

How to Use

The TalentFirst Inventory is designed to create pools of applicants who will make for trustworthy, dependable, and productive employees. The TFI is also designed to facilitate the conversation between hiring personnel and applicants via rich interview questions that provide insight into an applicant’s productive and counterproductive behaviors, supplementing an organization’s interview process.
