Normative Data

Normative Data

Profile Reports summarize the results of an individual administration, providing scores for all scales.
Interpretive Reports provide detailed information about scores from a single administration, presented both numerically and graphically. An individual's scores are compared to those in the normative sample and elevations at the scale and subscale level are indicated.

The MPS is available in handscored, online, and software format. With the handscored format, respondents complete the assessment using MHS QuikScore Forms that easily calculate scores. With the online and software formats, you can instantly generate Profile Reports and Interpretive Reports.

Scientific Validation

Various studies have examined the link between the MPS subscales and clinical variables. Elevated scores on the perfectionism dimensions have been linked to depression, suicide, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, and procrastination. Because each subscale measures different perfectionism symptoms, different functioning difficulties are related to each subscale. Detailed data are presented in the MPS Technical Manual, including

  • Scale construction
  • Internal consistency and test-retest reliability
  • Convergent and discriminant validity
  • Gender and age effects
  • Correlations with other perfectionism measures and personality measures, including relationship to psychopathology and elements of the five-factor personality model, depression, and social desirability

The community sample consisted of 1,350 women and 814 men. The clinical sample consisted of 812 women and 664 men.
